Melodies of Love: John and Jerrita's Journey to 'I Do'
John and Jerrita first met over 13 years ago. They met briefly during a service at John’s church where Jerrita’s choir were the singers for the program. He got up from the piano so that she could play for her church choir. They both spoke, smiled at each other, and thought nothing else of the day. One year later, Jerrita received a friend request from John on Facebook.

John: “I sent a friend request to Jerrita because I saw her responding to a Facebook post of a friend of mine from a concert in my church district. Someone was complimenting her in the photo she was tagged in where she was playing her trumpet. It was a hilarious conversational exchange to me, so I had to add her. In the process of adding her, I saw that we both knew many of the same people and I found it truly interesting that we did not personally know each other”.

Jerrita: “When I saw the friend request from John, I first asked myself, Who is John? Why in the world is he adding me? My first thought was, “Nope! I don’t have any time for these dudes trying to holler at me, let me go ahead and see what he is about and squash it”. I was over dating and didn’t want to waste my time or anyone else’s. This is when I messaged him and said “I hope you are doing well. Do I know you? He said that he didn’t know me but saw I liked music, and he did too, so he added me. I was like “Whew! Great, he’s cool and not trying to date me”. When he mentioned music, that was it, I knew we’d have great conversations because music is my life, and hey! what’s wrong with having a friend?”

The more John and Jerrita talked each day, the more they connected and realized that they met in person at his church a year prior. He felt that Jerrita set him up. She left his church early because she wasn’t feeling well and he was forced to play for her choir and he didn’t know the song at all.

John: "Out of all the Lee Williams songs that I already knew, the choir sang a song I never heard of. After my last relationship, I didn’t want my commitment to my church and my joy of piano playing and practicing to ever be an issue because it is a big part of who I am. I sincerely prayed and asked God for two things in my next relationship. I specifically asked God to give me a girl who loved music and I wanted her to be light-skinned. It was less than a year later, that I found Jerrita. Jerrita and I became good friends for many years and the rest is history. One thing for sure, we always laughed and joked during our conversations and even today. God gave me what I asked for and more. It does not get any better than having a "music head" for a fiancé’. She’s one of a kind. I Love her so much”.

Jerrita: "I knew it would take a special person to date me because of who I am. I I asked God for a man after his own heart. I knew if he truly Loved and served God, he’d Love me. I wanted someone who paid attention to me, has a great sense of humor, loves me for who I am, and understands me and what I do musically. More than anything, I wanted a man who honored his parents, especially his mother. I knew that if he did, he would Love me and be gentle with my heart. I love that we developed a strong friendship for many years, what we have is truly special. God sent me my request and so much more, he sent me my "Hunni Bear", John, which means “God is Gracious”. He has loved and cared for me in a way that often leaves me speechless. He is truly my best friend. John proposed on our anniversary on May 15, 2024. I SAID YES!! It is a day I will never forget".

We truly look forward to spending the rest of our lives together. We are happy that you are joining us on our wedding day to witness our union before God.
